Allison
Kress, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist
with extensive experience in guiding both teenagers
and adults through understanding and resolving many
different life issues, such as depression, anxiety,
relationship difficulties, career changes, life adjustments,
and challenges specific to women and teenagers.
In addition, Dr. Kress is a leading
expert and one of the few therapists in California
specializing in cutting and other types of self-injury.
She has years of research and clinical practice in
this area, successfully helping people overcome their
struggles and end self-injury. Dr.
Kress wrote her doctoral dissertation
on adolescent females who engage in cutting, and she
developed a unique treatment workbook as a hands-on
guide for clients as they reflect on and change their
thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Dr. Kress
has also given numerous presentations to
students, agencies, and the media about cutting
and other types of self-injury. Prior to private
practice, Dr. Kress worked with adults,
teens and children in clincial settings, as well as
in public schools and universities. She also volunteers
her time counseling military members and their families
as a grief and P.T.S.D. therapist, has worked at the
National Women’s Health Network in Washington,
D.C., and has assisted people on suicide/crisis hotlines.
